Just waiting for my ride to show up I read the bio of Kimbo Slice on Wikipedia. This caught my attention:

Ferguson currently lives with his family in Miami, and is a single father to six children; three boys and three girls. The boys names are Kevin Jr., Kevin II, and Kevlar while the girls names are Kassandra, Kiara, and Kevina.

Dear god no. Think of the children will you?

Thanks [info]chadu! Definitely don't miss this humorous music video about G.I. Joe. Bonus points for spotting celebs.

This is an absolutely hilarious read and I highly recommend anyone who has seen the movies that have been called "Star Wars" to read it ASAFP.

7 classic Star Wars characters who totally dropped the ball.

I know I've posted about this comic before, but "Motel Art Improvement Service" by Act-I-Vate's Jason Little is a well-illustrated and novel story that I really think y'all might enjoy. Today has the FINAL installment of that story as it is now complete. For those of you who might be reluctant to start reading a webcomic for fear of following yet another endless series, this one is not like that. You can sit down and read this whole thing and it won't consume days of your life. It's full of expressive artwork and genuine characters.

Wanna start from the beginning? Here's a link:

I have created a character for my comic that may or may not take a place as a major character in the story. I thought it would be fun to pose a little exercise for you lot given some very generic parameters...

Let's say you are a female crime-fighting vigilante on the mean streets of Venture City. Your pseudonym is "Gumshoe." Tell me about yourself, your costume and your equipment (if any).

Regarding the old skool adventure game Zork:

They've revived the property into a turn-based web adventure game that you can see here:

http://legendsofzork.com/

I found out about it because an LJ acquaintance of mine did the character artwork for it. It's got a really good feel and the gameplay is worth having a look at.

Not like you need another thing to spend your precious spare time on, but hey.

:)

We had the inspection of the house done this morning and it went very well. There's always something, naturally, but what was found wasn't that bad. Other things that were found were awesome.

The worst of the worst:

-One room in the basement had two of its windows covered by the 70s wood-paneling.
-Said windows were covered but not insulated
-Said windows are the original 1959, single-pane (read:non-insulated, energy in-efficient)
-The wood paneling was not framed with 2x4s but with very thin wood and foil sheeting for insulation
-both dens have questionable access to the ductwork that provides heat to the house
-the sink in the main bath has some rust spots on it and should be replaced
-The fan over the stove in the kitchen does not work. QQ

Things we thought would be bad but weren't
-the electric, forced-air furnace system looks to be in good shape, has been maintained regularly, and appears to work fine
-The roof was done about ten years ago giving us several years before we need to think about replacement

Things that were awesome:
-The living room window is original AND in immaculate condition
-upper floor windows are recent (<12 years old) and high-quality
-There is beautiful hardwood under all the upper and main floor carpets!!!

On project we'll likely be undertaking ASAP is to remove the carpet in the living room and dining room. We'll get that sanded and refinished. It should be really great. One other reason to remove the carpet is that the furniture left impressions all over the place and where the furniture rested for god knows how many years, there has been fading so you can see large pink spots on the carpet surrounded by beige where it has faded.

So we amended our contract, submitted to the seller, and they agreed. It's all signed now and come June 12th, we'll be in that house for real.

I almost forgot to mention, we got Shadow back home today too! He's in good spirits and the vet reported a fantastic recovery. No meds to take, no special equipment on him, he's just back.

Now, hopefully, he'll stay healthy for a long while.

I did this meme earlier in the week and [info]chutchings asked for comment. When she did it, in turn, I reciprocated. So here goes:

1. Comics

I have always loved making comics although I haven't been buying mainstream superhero comics for years. I'm certainly behind the times when it comes to the latest crisis in the DC Universe (not that I followed DCU as closely as I did Marvel) or the latest Mutant Menace or whatever they've got going on now. According to my friend who used to run a comic store and from whom I bought my comics, I'm the one who "always buys the weird-ass comics" by which he meant indy comics like Scott Pilgrim and Nothing Better. In fact, I tend to prefer a lot of comics that started out on the web.

God, this is a big topic. I could probably ramble on for pages about this so I think I'll stop there.

2. Gaming

Role-plyaing games, MMORPGs, CCGs, Board games, I love em all. I've become a real board game geek over the last few years. I play bi-weekly at least and usually when friends get together, some form of board gaming goes on. I'm in one D&D 4e campaign right now and I'm pretty much in disagreement with my friends who disdain it in favour of 3.5. I like it so far.

3. Daughters

Yes! I have two of them! They are awesome. They make me crazy sometimes but it's all good. They are wonderful little souls. Couldn't live without them now.

4. Jiu Jitsu (did I spell that right?)

The word is spelled a few different ways so it's easy to get it right. :) That's how I spell it so you're double-right. I love doing martial arts because it was a form of intense physical exercise that I could focus on learning skills and not on the fact that I was grinding away at repetitive tasks. Which I was still doing, mind, but it was more engaging.

5. I'm not sure how to succinctly put this, but you seem to like group activities or picking up an activity that you can share with others even if you mostly do it by yourself (ie. guitar or comics). So I guess I think of you as a "joiner" for lack of a better term.

I do like to collaborate. I spent many years as youth doing solitary tasks but now I like to share that activity with others.

Just a reminder and an apology. I will be making my order for my personal copies of the Fortune Cookie Anthology that I participated in late last year. I meant to post some samples of the content so you know what to expect but I lacked the time.

If you liked the Bloody Beans story I did last year you'll love this story because it's longer and better overall. Just say the word and I'll order one for you so you can save on shipping from Lulu.

By the end of today (Wed, Feb 18th) I will make my order and while I will order extras so I can sell to people local to me who are not on this list, I could run out before you get yours in that way. Pre-ordering means there's one set aside for you.

$15 gets you a copy just for you with a signature from me (if you want me to, anyway.)

Aw heck, it's been a long time since I did a meme...

Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

My five from [info]mister_wolf

Web comics vs. working for print anthologies

I needn't be an either-or thing. It's really nice to have a physical product to show people and it's really kept me honest by having a deadline that absolutely HAS to be met. In terms of anthologies, you really don't know what else is going to be put in the book with your work. Could be good stuff, could be wincingly bad and then you need to be able to coerce your family and friends to buy a copy!

RB's name - any resolution, yet?

Yep. I'm at peace with it. I think he's Ragebox for real. I think there are a few people who will call him "Arby" or "RB" and that's probably as close as he'll get to a name he'd identify with. Of course he carries deep in his psyche, the name of his donor identity...

Fatherhood

Nothing changes you like it. I highly recommend it.

MMORPGS - are you still doing these?

Yep. Still WoW. Level 80 Undead Rogue. Working on my raid gear, raising that DPS as high as I can get it.

Annnnndddd.... Gee, the fifth one is always really hard.

Seriously, we're like that everyday. Except for the concubine bit, that's pure fantasy.
